NICS Voluntary Appeal (VAF) Victory 051523

Minnesota Second Amendment Attorney Lynne Torgerson won the FBI Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Division’s National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) Section Appeal, the Voluntary Appeal File (VAF) application.  Her client was approved for entry into the VAF system.  A Unique Personal Identification Number (UPIN) was also created and assigned.  Ms. Torgerson’s client had attempted to purchase a firearm.  The FBI NICS system, wrongfully denied his purchase.  Through investigation of the facts and top notch legal research, Ms. Torgerson proved that the denial was erroneous.  The laws regarding firearms have changed dramatically over the past 30 years.  Crimes that historically were disqualifying, no longer are.  Mr. Torgerson’s client is now able to legally purchase firearms under state and federal law.  Well done Ms. Torgerson.
